The former boy wizard Daniel Radcliffe a.k.a Harry Potter has earned many, many Galleons in his real life as a “muggle”. Currently, the 28-year-old actor, together with his colleagues Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, are all worth more than $30 million dollars, according to Sunday Times Rich List, which was published at the end of 2017. Radcliffe is ranked eighth in the under-30 category with his earnings of $110 million!

It seems, however, the Harry Potter star is only sitting on his fortune and barely spending it. In a 2016 interview, he told Belfast Telegraph that he didn’t really do anything with all this money.

“I’m very grateful for it, because having money means you don’t have to worry about it, which is a very lovely freedom to have. It also gives me immense freedom career-wise,“ he said. We believe the young actor when he claims he enjoys being on the set much more than spending money on expensive stuff. However, he did invest in some solid purchases.

Let’s take a look at Daniel’s shopping list.

$2.06 Childhood Home

Daniel Radcliffe lived in this four-bedroom house in now fashionable Sherbrooke Road, Fulham, West London until the age of 12 - that is one year after the first Harry Potter film was released.

The family moved out right after young Daniel’s career took off. The house was then refurbished and eventually turned into a luxury modern home. When it came on the market in 2006, it drew a lot of attention. Many wanted to own the house only because of its bathroom. Reportedly, Daniel was there when he heard the news he got the role of the world’s most famous child wizard.

$4.3 Million Apartment In Manhattan

In November 2008, 18-year-old Daniel Radcliffe made his debut on the New York real estate scene by purchasing a loft-style two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan.

The glass-walled building on 40 Mercer Street was designed by Jean Nouvel, and was (and still is) very trendy. The price was $4.3 million. The actor never lived in the apartment, though, and his brokers listed it for rent at $20,000 per month. We can't imagine having bought something like this and never actually living it, much less renting it out at such an expensive price for (we feel) literally no reason. But, Daniel had to put his money somewhere right?

$4.9 Million Apartment Facing The Hudson River

Only a couple of months after Radcliffe bought a $4. 3 million worth apartment in SoHo, he bought a second one in downtown Manhattan. That was a 2,450-square-feet corner three-bedroom spread at Leroy Street. The apartment faces the Hudson River.

In the apartment, there are curved windows, marble corners, and a 500-bottle wine cellar. The family holding company, Gilmore Jacobs Ltd, whose services Daniel used, closed the transaction. Daniel lived in the apartment only for a short period of time - that was during his Broadway debut in Peter Shaffer’s Equus.

New York Apartment Number 3 For $6.24 Million

In the fall of 2009, and less than a year after he had already purchased TWO apartments in Manhattan, Daniel Radcliffe indulged in another luxurious property in the Big Apple. This time, he invested $6. 24 million in a town house located on West 12th Street.

The building dates back to 1847 when it was built by a sea captain as a gift for his daughters. The young actor had apparently become greedier in terms of bedrooms as this 3000-square-feet house had five of them. AND a 39-feet garden! At that point, 20-year old Radcliffe already owned a property worth about $16 million in New York. Plus his considerably modest childhood home apartment in Fulham, West London.

$2.5 Million Luxury Melbourne Apartment

This one Daniel didn’t buy himself with the Harry Potter money. In 2005, the actor’s parents, BBC casting director Marcia and literary agent Alan, purchased a brand new flat for themselves on 98B St Georges Road, Toorak, Melbourne.

Back then, the apartment with a splendid view to the Yarra River cost the family $1. 7 million. Ownership was transferred to Daniel for his 18th birthday. The actor has never rented out the asset although it has been vacant for long periods of time. Through the years, numerous buyers placed their bids for the luxurious apartment, but Radcliffe has so far resisted the urge to sell it, no matter how high the offers have gone.

A Surprising… 2007 Fiat Punto

Judging by his taste in cars, we can say Daniel Radcliffe is an Average Joe. At the age of 18 in 2011, he had already accumulated a fortune of $37 million. And what is the first car he buys for himself?

An inexpensive, three-door green Grande Punto! He said he chose it because it was one of the most economical and eco-friendly vehicles in UK. All respect to his environmental conscious choice, but some still wonder why he didn’t go for something, if not flashy and extravagant, at least a bit more interesting?

Mona D, Mary And Me By Jim Hodges

It was 2009 when Daniel Radcliffe decided to start investing in art. Hist first “crush” was a blue ink drawing on white paper by the New-York based conceptual artist Jim Hodges. The painting was called Mona D, Mary and Me. He saw the painting at Frieze Art Fair, and expressed his desire to buy it. The broker, however, said they were waiting for a more prestigious collector.

Daniel thanked him and was about to leave when the author, Hodges, turned out to be a huge Harry Potter fan, and insisted they sold it to Radcliffe. Since then, the actor’s been close friends with Hodges and his bestie Tim, whom are both gay. Radcliffe says that thanks to them he was immediately embraced by the amazing New York lgbt community.

The Butterfly Painting By Damien First

Daniel Radcliffe is not just a random art collector. He sure has a nose for expensive contemporary art! He owns a Damien Hirst “Kaleidoscope” painting, which, reportedly costs around $2 million.

The first “Kaleidoscope” painting the artist, known for his eccentric ideas, created in 2001. His works are made of thousands of different colored butterfly wings ordered in various geometrical patterns. Hirst received harsh criticism for killing 9, 000 butterflies for his Tate exhibition in 2012.

Books

Daniel Radcliffe is a classic case of a bookworm. He spends a great amount of his money on books. From Emil Zola to Mikhail Bulgakov, he read them all. He can talk for hours about the books that have been influential to him.

His top five recommendations are Labyrinths by Jorge Luis Borges, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson, The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway, Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K.Rowling. The actor admits he wasn’t always a big fan of the Harry Potter series. “I only read the first two books and I wasn’t really as into it as everyone else in my class.”

Radcliffe’s stash has built up since he first played Harry Potter in 2001. Ten movies and 105 more millions later, Daniel is among the most recognizable faces on the planet. Yet, he’s also among the few rich and famous who never let fame and money go to their head. Apart from his property investments, he hasn’t spent much money on other luxuries. When asked what his Harry would dream of buying, he would instantly answer, "A campervan, which I would call Dumbledoremobile”.

Honestly, if he really wanted, he could turn this van into a tourist attraction based on the name alone. You think we're exaggerating? Harry Potter fans will go see anything owned by the actors, and invest in anything remotely associated with the books or the films.

$17,000 Mattress

Many 20-year-olds who’ve just moved out of their parents’ homes to start living on their own, pay no more than $10-12,000 a year for rent. When he was 22, Daniel Radcliffe paid $17, 000 for a custom mattress from Savoir, the 100-year-old luxury mattress maker.

Of course, for a guy who received his first pay-check at the age of 11, and it was for $320,000, this 17 grand was just pocket money. Yet, we believe that paying that much for a mattress is way too unnecessary…even for someone with severe chronic back pains!

This might be one of the things that Harry Potter might buy for himself. After sleeping on a cot for so many years of his childhood, we like to think that he deserves a good night sleep after being a hero of the wizarding world. Yes, Harry deserves this big purchase.

Ford Ron-Deo

Not Mondeo, but Ron-deo! Just like Radcliffe, Harry isn’t into fancy cars, either. He’d buy a Ford, and name it after his best friend, Ron Weasley.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione faced many challenges together, including keeping the Philosopher’s Stone from Professor Quirinus Quirrel, and saving a whole bunch of good people from the bad ones.

As for Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, you’d never see him driving a Ford. The guy is a ginger car nut. Unlike his colleague Radcliffe, Grint spent $250,000 on a classic Ferrari, which he named... after his hair color.

Being Taller

Both Harry and Daniel are not guys of impressive stature. The actor is 5'5", and although he’s totally in peace with his height, he often jokes he’d gladly invest in platform shoes to make him look taller.

When asked if his height has held him back in the business, he said, “Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise have very different careers, and they are both about the same height as me. I could play a soldier. The minimum height for a marine is five feet, and I’m well above that.”

Poor Daniel. We know it's not easy to be short for a guy. There's so many expectations for them on how to look, and being short is not one of them. Luckily, Daniel takes everything with his head held as high as he possibly could. We're sure though that if there's a spell to make himself taller, Harry would definitely invest time into that.

One thing Harry Potter would definitely invest in is buying Lord Voldemort a nose. Probably many of you have wondered what happened to the nose of Tom Riddle a.k.a Lord Voldemort. The reason for his physical deformity is that has been experimenting excessively with Dark Magic in order to achieve immortality. We don’t know exactly what forms of magic he’s been experimenting with but the result is so deplorable that even his greatest enemy feels the urge to pay for something like this.

In fairness, can anyone really blame him? Voldemort is not particularly pretty to look at, so of course we would much rather someone who actually had a nose. Dark magic or not, Voldemort should have spent a little more time focusing on his face.

Real Castle

Radcliffe has a thing for luxurious properties, and has bought himself a few in the most fashionable parts of Manhattan.

Harry, however, might aim even higher. He dreams of investing in a real castle. Considering his grim early childhood experience, when he was living with his aunt in the village of Little Whinging, it’s understandable why he’d dream of a whole castle all for himself. Given Potter’s mild predisposition, though, we are sure Ron and Hermione would also have their bedrooms there.

As for us, well, we would definitely love to own a castle like this. It's not as big as other ones, but you know what they say, size doesn't matter.
