Asafa Powell is a Jamaican sprinter with an estimated net worth of $6.5 million. He earned his net worth as he specializes in the 100 meters. He held the 100m world record between June 2005 and May 2008 with 9.77 and 9.74 seconds in the record. He is well-known for his ability to consistently break the 10-second barrier in competition. His overall personal best is 9.72 seconds and this is the fourth fastest time in the history of the event. Born on November 23, 1982 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Powell is the youngest of the six sons born to two ministers. He attended Ewarton Primary School and Charlemont High School both in St. Catherine, Jamaica. Because he has suffered from pre-race anxiety, he has underperformed his abilities in some major races. He was a competitor in both the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Unfortunately, he only finished fifth in both instances. During the 2012 Olympics, he finished only in the eighth place after injuring his groin.

Powell won a gold medal and set the world and Olympic records as part of the Jamaican 4x100 meters relay team in 2008. He won a bronze and a silver medal in the 100m and 4x100m relay respectively at the 2007 Osaka World Championships. He has been successful at the Commonwealth Games where he won two gold and one silver medal. He won a bronze in the 100m and a gold medal in the relay during the 2009 World Championships. He has won five times at the IAAF World Athletics Final and was formerly the 100m world record holder for the event.
