Jurassic World: Dominion has temporarily halted production after crew members tested positive for coronavirus, director Colin Trevorrow announced. “Woke up to the news we had a few positive coronavirus tests on Jurassic World: Dominion. All tested negative shortly after, but due to our safety protocols, we’re going to pause for two weeks. Back soon,” Trevorrow said.

A spokesperson for Universal said that there had been a small number of positive tests for COVID-19 on set. As a result, production was suspended so those who have come into contact with the virus can self-isolate, adding that filming “will resume in accordance with established safety guidelines.”

Universal has reportedly delayed the release of Jurassic World: Dominion until June 10, 2022. The film was initially set to debut next summer. The sixth installment in the series had begun filming in the UK in March when the coronavirus pandemic hit. After returning to set, cast and crew members were subjected to frequent testing while isolating in a hotel. The film is expected to have three more weeks of filming.

This is the second blockbuster to shut down production after The Batman, which suspended filming after Robert Pattinson tested positive for coronavirus. The film resumed filming on September 17, after Pattinson tested negative. The film has approximately three more months of filming and is expected to finish by the end of the year. In early October, the film's release was delayed until March 4, 2022.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles in Jurassic World: Dominion. The ensemble cast also includes Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and BD Wong. Trevorrow had previously directing 2015’s Jurassic World. He also co-wrote the script for the 2018 sequel Fallen Kingdom.

Overall, the five Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films have earned more than $5 billion globally at the box office. Jurassic World and its sequel Fallen Kingdom each grossed over $1 billion. Executive producer Frank Marshall said in May that Jurassic World: Dominion would not be the final film in the franchise but would mark "the start of a new era" in which humans have to cohabitate with dinosaurs on the mainland.
