New York Jets Sign Rookie Denzel Mims To Four-Year, $5.4 Million Contract

On Friday, the New York Jets signed wide receiver Denzel Mims to a four-year contract worth $5.4 million, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. $3 million is guaranteed, per Mehta.
The Jets drafted Mims in the second round - 59th overall - in this year's draft. The Baylor wideout was a First-team All-Big 12 selection in his final season of college, recording 66 receptions for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns.
New York lost top wide receiver Robby Anderson to the New York Jets in free agency this offseason, so head coach Adam Gase and quarterback Sam Darnold will reply aplenty on Mims to help out in the passing game.
In four seasons at Baylor, Mims posted 186 total receptions for 2,925 yards and 28 touchdowns - averaging an impressive 15.7 yards per carry.
Mims was part of what was regarded as one of the greatest wide receiver draft classes ever. Six receivers were taken in the first round: Henry Ruggs (12th overall to the Las Vegas Raiders), Jerry Jeudy (15th overall to the Denver Broncos), CeeDee Lamb ( 17th overall to the Dallas Cowboys), Jalen Reagor (21st overall to the Philadelphia Eagles), Justin Jefferson (22nd overall to the Minnesota Vikings) and Brandon Aiyuk (25th overall to the San Francisco 49ers.

There were seven wide receivers taken in round two; Mims was the last one selected in that round.
After a disappointing 2019 season that saw them start 1-7 (they finished 7-9), the Jets will hope that Darnold, Mims, Le'Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder will be able to lead an extremely talented offensive group. They'll certainly finish better than the unit that scored just 17.3 points per game last season, second-fewest in the NFL.
The Jets have Mims signed for four years on a rookie deal. They can only hope that he'll be able to live up to expectations and perform like a Pro Bowl talent. If he does, this team should be a playoff contender for years to come.
